Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a therapist. Grounded in dialogue and regular personal interaction, psychotherapy provides a supportive environment that allows a person to talk openly with someone who’s objective, neutral, and nonjudgmental.
A psychotherapist uses psychological methods to explore recurring themes and discover underlying problematic beliefs and emotional responses to help the client overcome problems, change behaviors and increase happiness.
At the Healing Hearts Studio,
we combine the tenets of psychotherapy and social work, creating an holistic approach to helping our clients improve their mental health and inner well-being. This enables us to not only assist you in understanding and addressing your mental health challenges but also identifying the necessary resources and support to make positive improvements in various aspects of your life.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy
is a transformative and evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing and traumatic experiences.
EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment and eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation) are used during one part of the treatment. In EMDR therapy, after the clinician has determined which trauma memory to target first, the clinician asks the client to hold different aspects of that event or thought in mind and then
initiates bilateral stimulation (BLS) to engage cognitive processing in the brain. During EMDR therapy, internal associations arise, and the clients begin to re-process the memory and disturbing feelings, ultimately transforming the meaning of the painful traumatic event on an emotional level.
EMDR therapy is particularly effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related conditions. EMDR therapy, is a client-centered and collaborative process, empowering individuals to actively engage in their healing journey and ultimately finding relief from their trauma and regaining control of their lives., Through EMDR therapy, clients often experience a reduction in the emotional charge of traumatic memories, leading to greater resilience, emotional well-being, and an improved overall quality of life.
EMDR therapy has been declared an effective form of trauma treatment by a wide range of organizations. In the United States, these include the American Psychiatric Association, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs and the World Health Organization. "I have felt a tremendous amount of relief through combined therapy discussions and EMDR treatment. I have been living with Complex PTSD symptoms for the majority of my life. In just three EMDR sessions (combined with several weeks of discussions with my therapist), I can now recall some of my most significant traumatic memories through a lens of present felt safety. Through these therapeutic experiences, I have had the opportunity to mentally go back into my past, and reconnect my childhood-self with the more healed version of who I have become. I have had emotional, physical, and even spiritual responses to this form of counseling. It truly feels like I have been gifted the chance to let go of the hurt, and embrace the freedom that comes with healing. Thank you, Ms. Leigh for helping me discover the joy of being present with myself."

client TESTIMONIALS
Female, age 28
Very comfortable to talk to, Leigh gives you patience and time you need, really hear to your concerns
Male, age 34
Leigh can listen to a small amount of your story and tell you how you are viewing things wrong and simple ways to improve how you see things and improve your life as a whole. She is like a mind reader that can get in there and see all the errors that you can't see. She is the first counselor that I've had that provided good, actionable advice without months of talking and getting nowhere.
Female, age 31
From the get go, Leigh creates a safe and open space to feel comfortable expressing yourself. She is supportive and encouraging and has been helpful in guiding me through feelings or situations that I don't quite understand yet. She has made our sessions very much a collaborative conversation, and although I have only had a couple of sessions with her, she creates such a comfortable space that I feel like we've been meeting for years.

Wouldn’t want anyone else! Leigh listens to everything I say and helps me process it all. She is helping me learn so much about myself. Love her!!!
